A Problem We've All Faced:
I was in New York City when I conceived of 1-800-KNOW-NOW. While I was out on the town, I found myself frustrated when I needed to know something — the type of thing I would easily have been able to find if I were at a computer — but I couldn't the info quickly and easily.
Is the New York Public Library open?
Where is a good sushi restaurant in the Village?
Is it going to rain this afternoon?
Are there any good movies playing nearby?
"I don't want to know later, I want to know now."
The Need for Something That Works:
Sometimes I'd call and make my way through an automated menu to get the info, or I'd stop, send a text message and get some automated response. But usually it was easiest to call a friend and ask them to help me out.
What would take me 5 minutes on my tiny cell phone screen, would take a friend 30 seconds.
Getting information from an automated menu would be frustrating, while talking to a person was easy.
Most of the information we want is out there. We just still can't get at it easily when we need it.
"Why are we waiting for technology to catch up? We want to know now."
A Common Sense Solution:
I realized that all the technology we need to get answers to people's questions today is already in most people's hands: The phone used for it's intended purpose, as a phone!
Hence, 1-800-KNOW-NOW: All you need is a phone to access any information on the Internet. We can do this by connecting people to help each other find the information we need.
No matter where you go, you now have someone to call when you just want to know now.
